Week 8
March 13 - 17, 2023
Hi guys, it's me again in my 8th week of internship! This week was the most exciting part of my OJT with a lot of learning and experiences. Come and join me as I explore my learnings for this week and share my experience.
This week, I was assigned back to my main role as a Technical Team Assistant. The head of USPF, Ma'am Yna, announced that we would need to troubleshoot at Bantayan Southern Institute (BSI). The said school is more like another branch or campus of USPF, but under a different name located in Bantayan Island, Cebu, which is several hours away from the city.
The problem was with their computer laboratory. The laboratory was renovated and required them to pull out all the PCs in that specific lab. In order to avoid inconvenience for the students once the laboratory is done, we needed to check all the units to see if they were working or not, list the working and defective units, and segregate the working units from the defective ones.
Ma'am Yna had a meeting with our manager, and after their discussion, an emergency meeting was called to discuss the announcement. Our manager selected an employee and an intern to accompany him to Bantayan Southern Institute, and I was chosen as the intern to join them.
We were given two days to troubleshoot and fix all the problems with the units. The photo above shows us on a barge heading to Bantayan Island, Cebu. We traveled approximately four hours to a port in Northern Cebu, where we rode a barge to Bantayan Island. After a 1 hour and 30-minute journey by barge, we arrived at Bantayan Island port and then traveled for another 30-40 minutes to reach Bantayan Southern Institute Campus.
After our Manager and the Campus Head finished their discussion, we immediately went to work. My task was to check all 26 PCs while my colleague and our Manager were troubleshooting a specific PC problem at the campus's main office. It was a tiring day because we had traveled for about 5 hours before we started working.
On our second day, we still had a lot of work to do, given the limited time and budget we had. We quickly had breakfast and headed to the campus to finish our tasks. We successfully completed our assigned tasks before the sun went down, and we immediately traveled back to the Bantayan Island port to catch a barge back to Cebu City.
This experience was very exciting and educational. It taught me a lot, especially about time management. Although my body was tired, my mind was filled with knowledge and experience. The journey was well worth the experience and knowledge gained.
We completed our job with high quality and returned home safely, with valuable lessons learned. This experience was the highlight of my entire OJT, and I am grateful for the opportunity to accompany my Manager and one of our Technical Support Team members. It was an honor to be trusted with such a challenging assignment in a remote location, far from the city. I hope to have many more similar experiences in my future career.
